Overview
When Eagles Mere was founded back in 1804, there were no street addresses (heck, there was barely a postal service back then, so there wasn't much call for them). So when houses were built, folks gave them unique and at times arcane names. And if you wanted to locate a particular place you might find yourself asking the two old guys you saw whittling on the porch of the general store.
"Say there, fellas," you might say. And they'd glance up at you, a bit leery.
"Looking for a place they call Huckle Chuckle," you'd say. And suddenly their faces'd just light up. They'd break into smiles and point just over your shoulder. "Just up the top of the road there, past Clay Cottage, on your right, and Turtle Rock, on your left. You know, where the first tee used to be for the Raymond Hotel. What a shame that grand old hotel burned to the ground back in the '40's."
Of course if you spent more time with them, they'd likely tell you about how Huckle Chuckle was kind of legendary around here. How back in the mid 1800's a cyclone had lifted it clean off its foundations and rotated the whole place 90 degrees around its fireplace. And you'd be understandably skeptical, until you saw the before and after photos with your own eyes.
But we digress.
Huckle Chuckle is an amazingly well preserved, and quite large, lake cottage. The edge of the spacious property sits just several feet from the pristine lake. Perfect for launching a kayak, or setting up a chair and doing some casual fishing for trout, while watching eagles and sunrises.
There's a great big yard, ideal for a round of croquet, badminton, or frisbee golf if that's your thing.
A huge covered porch faces the lake. That's where you'll lounge around, sharing a craft beer with family and friends while someone else gets the barbeque going for a change.
Inside, there's three stories of down-home accommodations with 10 bedrooms, including a sleeping porch, that’ll sleep up to 22 guests comfortably. More if they're real friendly.
So invite your friends, invite the extended family, get that reunion happening. It's gonna be a fun summer. See you there.
